Caves

The rock cut chambers are also called rock cut caves. Shaft graves and rock cut chamber tombs are of two types-single chambered and the multi chambered. These are monolithic monuments mostly quarried into the laterite beds. They have an opening either on the side or on the top surface or both as determined by the landscape. They are both pillared and non pillared chambers. Certain types of rock cut caves are rectangular chamberes with horizontal entrance and steps leading to them.
The grave goods of the rock cut chamber tombs included iron implements and pottery of different kinds. There are numerous sites of such megalithic burial types in central and north kerala.
